Adventures in Sydney, Australia//July 27, 2014

Sydney feels like home to me. When I think about the feeling it gave me, it feels like home. When describing Sydney, the words pretty, exhilarating, and epic come to mind. The biggest culture shock was that everybody has nicknames, even in professional businesses. On your business cards, you most likely will have your nickname on there instead of your birth name. They don’t stand on ceremony at all, and it is kind of fun that way. The locals are fantastic at having a good time. When they are off of work, they enjoy drinking outside and having a BBQ with friends. The best local food is the seafood at the markets. If you want a good meal, head over to the markets for some fresh fish. Another fun thing the locals like to do is people watch, and they call this “perving”.   I love that everyone uses terms of endearment. Your barista, waiter, dentist, and doctor will all most likely call you love.  I miss living there, it was a fun time, and I would love to visit again soon. Below are some images from one of My and Mike’s trips to Sydney.

4 Things…Endless Summer//July 27, 2014

With the heat wave that has been hovering over San Diego the last few days, we hope everyone has found a way to keep escape the heat. This weather is an excellent excuse to escape to the beach and swim in the cool water. The picture below is from a trip we took to Sydney, Australia, our sister city who also has one season. Summer. Endless Summer. Here are a few things I’ve been loving this last week…

Discovering: I just recently heard about Smart Girls by Amy Poehler, Meredith Walker, and Amy Miles. This blog is meant to be an inspiring place for women of all ages to learn about their true selves. In their bio the women state that they hope the blog opens up resources and experiences for girls, teens, and adults to learn about . They even have camps and workshops for teens to teach them about their opportunities in life. They encourage women to explore and discover new ideas, learn about new topics, and most importantly…to discover themselves.

Reminiscing: A resource party with my friend Taylor McWethy. Taylor is a marketing and advertising specialist. I feel so immensely lucky to have such wonderful friends to collaborate with. We got the inspiration for this from Mighty Girl.

Reading: Year of No Sugar by Eve Schaub. Sugar is my weakness, which is why I decided to read this book. The author explains the hidden effects of consuming as much sugar as Americans do and why it should be cut out of our diets. She also exposes foods which I would never have guessed contain sugar hidden within. This book definitely puts healthy eating into perspective.

Dreaming: of waterslides.

Happy Weekend.

xoxo,

Suzanne

One Pic: Morgan and Erin//July 23, 2014

Since feeling is first

Since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;

wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are better fate
than wisdom
lady I swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
—the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says

we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph

And death I think is no parenthesis -e.e.cummings

Congratulations to this beautiful couple. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your dreamy wedding day.

Cheers

xoxo,

Suzanne

4 things…Moonlight//July 20, 2014

Happy weekend to you all. I hope everyone has had an event filled summer so far. I’m still dreamy from Lauren and I’s trip to Washington and Oregon.  I can not wait to share some images of the beautiful sites we walked through.  I feel like I left a little piece of me on Orcas Island.  It’s a bit like summer camp.  People’s faces soften when you mention the island.  It just has a little magic.  I’m so grateful to Morgan and Erin for making us a part of their wedding week and Serena and Dan for opening up their home to us.  Here is a nostalgic look at two strangers watching the moonlight dance on the water.

1. Reading: The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweeden by Jonas Jonasson. Check out a review here. Two great things about this book: It’s funny, and it reminds us the impact that just one small person can have on the world.

2. Creating: watercolor in plein air. This past week I got a chance to paint in the beautiful outdoors of Washington National Park.   My painting was no masterpiece but it felt really good to draw upon real life for inspiration.

3. Dreaming: of a date night with Mike. Even though I’ve had a blast on my trip to the Pacific Northwest, it’s nice just to sit on the couch and hold Mike’s hand.  I’ve missed him.

4. Inspired: by a Rad post in an inspiring blog. Wittyrental’s recent blog post talked about fashion forward ladies and imagined what their spaces would be like. This post has really sparked something in me that I can’t quite verbalize yet but I hope to soon.

Happy Sunday friends,

xoxo,

Suzanne

The $40,900 Question: Michele from Before I Do Events//July 19, 2014

One of the many wonderful things about our job is that we get to work with such rad vendors. We interviewed Michele from Before I Do Events, and we got a little insight on what brides should be thinking about but often don’t, where Michele draws her inspiration from, and much more. Read on to hear about what has been going on with the lovely Michele lately.

1. What are one thing brides do not think about but should?

M: Tip the “little people”. We always ask brides to leave us a handful of $5′s and $10′s so that we can give them out to the rental guys and the people setting up. They work so hard and appreciate the gesture and often work so much harder for you after receiving it!

2. Design style you’re currently loving?

M: Romantic, organic, chic-I love the look of spilling bougainvillea from pots or urns. Warm but bright colors. It gives me a deep romantic feel and has a carelessness about it. I love all things organic but I am a wanna-be hippy, so I have to glam it up a bit. That is where the chic part comes into play.

3. Most rewarding part of your job?

M: The end of the night! The look on a brides face is nothing but one of pure joy! I honestly love seeing them partake in one of the best days of their lives.

4. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

M: To be honest, I am boycotting Pinterest. I feel like it does the opposite of inspire. It clogs my brain and totally overwhelms me. If I am overwhelmed, then everything is forced and nothing really comes to fruition. I like to sketch things out. I am not the best drawer, but from a sketch I then have it in my head and can explain the vision. I often am inspired by clothing…the colors, textures, and patterns in them.

5. Three things that make you smile?

M: My kids being crazy and wild (not in a naughty way), a good dinner party, any form of travel or adventure.

6. What do you do to recharge?

M: Some form of a workout (usually spin or volleyball), followed by a massage and then a fully planned out long day at the beach. Food, drinks, the right gear and no kids!

7. Something people don’t know about you?

M: I always get confused about the past…I remember things the way I wished it would have happened and always get made fun of because my stories are way off. They often say I live in “lala land”, but my version of life is way better that way.

8.  If you had $40,900 to spend on one trip, where would you go and what would you do?

M: This is easy…there are two trips on the wish list right now and one of them does not cost a ton but the other does. With the family we would: do a week on a boat sailing the coast of Croatia, then we would spend a week following the Tour de France while they travel thru the French/Italian alps. Then we would rent a house on the Amalfi Coast in Italy and invite a group of friends to come and join us.
