“People like you you must create. If you don’t create, you will become a menace to society.”
- Where’d You Go, Bernadette
Usually I am floating from place to place around my neighborhood and the world. The relentless monotony of being in one place during recent times has made it harder for me to stay inspired and continue photographing. It took me most of the year to discover new ways to entertain myself creatively.
Rather than being influenced by exploring new environments, I turned to finding inspiration in kitchy objects in my immediate surroundings and learning how to craft and play with what I had around me at home.
The wonderful Wanderlings team and their overwhelming talent also motivates me to keep going. It’s a joy to see this magical group of women create beautiful works of art despite recent times. They will never fail to inspire me.
Once my mom got the vaccine, I felt much more comfortable interacting with my next door neighbor, Ariell. We started creating a series of images around the complex and in my kitchen.
It was amazing to have someone to trust as a model and to be able to photograph in a safe setting. It’s been so fun to use what has inspired me to make my imaginative visions come to life.
I’ve been designing crazy rad worlds around my home with my dogs and with Ariell. I’ve also been experimenting with floral arrangements and am always keeping my eye out for flowers I pass by to use in my photography. Patterns of squares I find in my surroundings and in other artists’ work have also been catching my eye. Incorporating these things into my own artistic work has been a joy.
I’m grateful to have found ways to stay inspired and to continue to play with my imagination even within the confines of the pandemic. I am looking forward to continuing to create and hoping for more weddings, branding sessions, and art dates soon.
