Welcome to Talk To Me Creative. A weekly photography journal series that focuses on photography, and the creative life of Suzanne and Mike of SheWanders Photography, wedding photographers based in San Diego, California. Sharing a personal perspective on what it takes to be a successful photographer including their favorite and most inspiring resources.
“I like to surround myself with creative people. They love life in such a contagious way that can’t often be put into words.”
- Rachel Wolchin
Pre-pandemic, the SheWanders team had an artist studio at Liberty Station. Seeing the magical paintings, sculptures, and art installations while walking to work was a daily source of inspiration for me. Liberty Station is home to so many talented painters. Their work inspired me to create images that look as if they themselves are paintings.
Peggy Fishbeck’s gorgeous impressionist paintings inspire me to capture the essence of an experience with my photographs and keep my eye out for dreamy lighting. The complex emotions within Lisa Bryson’s paintings remind me to tell a story with my own work and display the multifaceted nature of my clients and models. June Rubin’s watercolors and collages of the beauty of the world inspire me to photograph the brilliant sights I see within the world and within nature.
Being surrounded by other creatives was a dream come true. I met so many wonderful people that influenced me in so many ways. Working at Liberty Station motivated me to become more involved in the art community. Liberty Station is where the first official Wanderlings Pop-up Art Date took place. I daydream about the day when Art Dates will continue.
The magical creativity that twirled around me at Liberty Station also inspired me to share my own creative knowledge with others. One of my favorite memories at Liberty Station is when my assistant, Ana, and I took a walk along the water and demoed photography techniques to the interns. It’s true what they say about creativity being contagious.
I am forever grateful to have worked in a place that was filled with so many other creatives, it influenced my work and the way I see the world immensely. Liberty Station, I miss you. I hope we will meet again soon.
