On today’s Talk To Me Creative, Suzanne shares her photoshoot must-haves.
Prime lenses are an essential in my kit because they are so flattering to people’s skin and create a kind of softness that’s perfect for wedding photography.
I typically use really small apertures that let more light into the camera, creating an almost watercolor feeling and giving images a more ethereal feel. They are a little more difficult to use than zoom lenses, but nothing compares to how beautiful people look in them. The extra work is worth it if my clients love their images at the end of the day.
You will love these lenses because they will undoubtedly make your images look good. When hiring a photographer, quality lenses are a big deal. They have a huge effect on the appearance of images. Canon lenses are extraordinary. The 85mm lens is smooth like butter and the 50mm and 35mm round out the story of the day perfectly. The 35mm is great for immediacy and landscapes, while the 50mm is perfect all day long to show a “straight forward” point of view. The 85mm is perfect for when you just can’t get close enough and want to be able to get candids without being obtrusive. Check out some of my images taken with prime lenses.

As you can see, prime lenses are perfect for telling the story of the day. We hope this inspires you to experiment with a new lens.
