Welcome to Talk To Me Creative. A weekly photography journal series that focuses on photography, and the creative life of Suzanne and Mike of SheWanders Photography, wedding photographers based in San Diego, California. Sharing a personal perspective on what it takes to be a successful photographer including their favorite and most inspiring resources.
As a wedding photographer, I am called to see things through many different lenses throughout the wedding day, depending on what the situation calls for. I approach the day as a traditional photographer, fine art photographer, editorial photographer and photojournalist all simultaneously.
My role as a fine art photographer allows me to capture your day in an imaginative and unique way to create works of art that will last a lifetime. I think creatively about lighting, posing, and scenery in order to create those gorgeous, eye-catching fine art images that we all live for. It is such a privilege to be able to harness the magnificence of your day into images you won’t want to stop staring at. At Erica and Drew’s Cabo wedding at The Cape Hotel, I kept my eye out for breathtaking silhouettes, unique framing, and stunning backlight.
Implementing an editorial style of photography, similar to that seen in magazines and in the fashion industry, also helps me capture stunning, extraordinary shots of your special day. Working as an editorial photographer has helped me fine tune my skills in creating images that feature unique angles and picturesque backgrounds to achieve that breathtaking, fashionable look. Capturing Erica with the stunning background that is Cabo San Lucas created some unforgettable shots. These images may not feature the candid emotions of the day, but they are sure to be visually captivating and capture its beauty.
Additionally, as the wedding day unfolds naturally, I also need to be able to capture the candid moments without saying, “stop, do that again.” Photojournalism is one of my most important tools, I couldn’t possibly direct the special moments that occurred throughout Erica and Drew’s day. It is important to capture these images without distracting from the spontaneity of the moment. Things happen so quickly during a wedding. The ceremony, the dances, the speeches, all happen in such a quick procession that you need to be able to pay attention to detail. Over the years, I have been able to fine tune my eye to be ready for the important shots. The goal is to blend into the background and turn those special moments into memories you can look back on, to stop time through photography.
As seen in these images of Erica, Drew and their family, as a traditional portrait photographer, I capture the posed portraits of the happy couple that every bride dreams of as well as the highly anticipated family and group shots. It’s my job to make the formal portrait process easy, fun, and comfortable for everyone. We work quickly and come well prepared in order to conduct a lovely family portrait session full of glee and love.
